Skills For Hope Foundation empowers future Indigenous Educators

SFHF is proud to partner with University of British Columbia (UBC) to support the teacher candidates in the Native Indigenous Teacher Educator Program (NITEP) as part of our ongoing commitment to Reconciliation and to expanding Access to Educational opportunities for All.

Through this partnership, SFHF provides food supplies and other essential resources that support the students on their educational journeys and foster a welcoming, culturally grounded environment for Indigenous teacher candidates. These resources not only empower individual learners—they enrich communities, bolster graduation success, and ensure that prepared teachers reach the classrooms in which they are needed.

SFHF is honoured to collaborate with the UBC Faculty of Education and NITEP in this vital work, empowering future educators to study with confidence and achieve their educational and vocational aspirations. Together, we are nurturing a strong sense of community connection and the stability students need to thrive academically and personally.

Skills For Hope Foundation announces a New Student Award

We are proud to announce that Skills For Hope Foundation in partnership with Capilano University has established a new annual student award to support learners in the Faculty of Education, Health, and Human Development. This award is specifically designed for students who demonstrate financial need and a commitment to community engagement.

Designed as both an entrance and term-based award, it aims not only to provide critical support to current students but also to help attract new students who wish to study and make meaningful contributions to the community. By easing financial barriers and increasing access to education, this award is aligned with Skills For Hope’s mission to help students achieve their academic, vocational or/and employment goals; and serve the community.

By supporting students in this faculty, the award helps empower future professionals in a wide range of fields—including Early Childhood Education, Music Therapy, and roles such as Health Care and Rehabilitation Assistants. These careers are vital for the well-being of individuals and families in our regions.

The positive impact of this support is significant. At a time when the cost of living continues to rise, financial assistance is often the difference between pursuing higher education or putting those dreams on hold. With this award, we are helping students move forward with their academic and professional aspirations, while encouraging their continued contributions to the community.

This initiative embodies our belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to pursue their academic and vocational dreams —and that, together, we can reduce barriers and create a stronger, healthier future for all.
